This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for any current or future vacancies that may occur within the lifetime of the list.
Requirements
- Subscribe to an Oath of Allegiance
- Submit to a general tuberculosis examination
- Be fingerprinted
- Complete a pre-placement physical examination
- Show proof of identity and right to work in the United States
- Pass a drug test (District has a drug-free workplace policy)
- Possess relevant training, education, and experience required for the classification
- Attach training certificates, transcripts verifying college coursework in a related field, or additional information such as a resume or letters of recommendation to your application
Certification & Eligibility
- Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination process will be ranked on the eligibility list by total examination score (normally in effect for one year).
- For vacant positions, the Classified Personnel Director submits the names of the top three “ranks” to the appointing power, who may select any one of them.
- Names of those not appointed remain on the eligibility list.
- Employee service credit: Regular employees of Escondido Union School District receive a credit of 0.5 points per complete year of service (up to 5 points) added to final composite scores in open examinations.
- Veterans and disabled veterans preference points are added to passing scores in open examinations for entry-level classifications.

- Holidays: Regular classified employees receive pay for 16 authorized holidays (12-month employees) if in paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
- Longevity Pay: Increments added to base pay effective July 1 after completing required years of service:
- 9 years: 3.5%
- 14 years: 7.123%
- 19 years: 12.158%
- 24 years: 16.644%
- 29 years: 21.310%
- 34 years: 26.162%
- 39 years: 31.209%
- 44 years: 36.457%
- 49 years: 41.915%
- 54 years: 47.592%
- 59 years: 53.495%
- Sick Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees earn 12 days paid sick leave per year (accumulates without limit). Prorated for employees working less than 12 months.
- Vacation: Regular full-time 12-month employees earn 12 days paid vacation leave per year (increases after 5 years of service). Prorated for employees working less than 12 months.
- Shift Differential: Employees working more than 4 hours of their regular shift (non-overtime) between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. receive a 3.75% pay increase for the entirety of each applicable day.
- Retirement: Employees working 4+ hours per day must join the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security program (contributions shared by District and employee).
- Professional Growth: After one year of service, regular classified employees may earn additional salary increments for continuing education.
Employment Terms
- Probationary Period: Initial appointment requires a probationary period not exceeding 6 months or 130 days of paid service (includes days worked, approved vacation, and designated holidays).
- Merit System: Appointment and continuing employment are based on the merit principle as outlined in the merit system Rules and Regulations.
