About the Role
This position supports school health services and assists with the care of school-aged children, including those with special health care needs. Individuals in this role do not work within the scope of practice for a CNA, CMA, RMA, RN, or LPN, regardless of licensure status.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent (GED, foreign equivalency, etc.).
- Successful completion of one of the following program options:
- College of Southern Nevada School Health Assistant (SHA) Training Program; or
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program from an accredited health sciences vocational program or accredited college/university; or
- Medical Assistant (MA) Program (Certified [CMA] or Registered [RMA]) from an approved or accredited vocational program or college.
- Evidence of current work experience as a CNA, CMA, RMA, RN, or LPN within the last five (5) years; or, initial certification/licensure obtained within the last 6 months.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver’s license allowing legal operation of a motor vehicle in Nevada. Must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
- Copy of current driving history (dated within six months) issued by the DMV at the time of application and interview.
- Safe driving record, maintained for the duration of the assignment.
- Current CPR/AED or Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or similar organization. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on component (online-only courses not accepted). Must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
- Current First Aid certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or similar organization. Certification must include an in-person, hands-on component (online-only courses not accepted). Must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
- Verification of one of the following credentials:
- SHA certificate from the College of Southern Nevada (CSN); or
- CNA certificate (verified online through the Nevada State Board of Nursing); or
- CMA or RMA certificate (verified online through the American Association of Medical Assistants [AAMA] or American Medical Technologists [AMT]); or
- Valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from the Nevada State Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Acute, subacute, or home health care experience working as a medical assistant or CNA.
- Experience working with school-aged children.
- Experience providing assistance to children with special health care needs and health-related procedures.
- Experience working with children who have significant disabilities in various settings.
- Clerical experience (records/files/data management, keyboarding, and/or typing).
Documents Required at Time of Application

- Copy of a valid Nevada driver’s license.
- Copy of current driving history (dated within six months) issued by the DMV.
- Copy of current CPR/AED or BLS certification (front and back).
- Copy of current First Aid certification (front and back).
- Proof of one of the following:
- CSN SHA program completion certificate; or
- Approved MA and active CMA or RMA certificate; or
- Active CNA certificate, RN or LPN licensure in Nevada, and recent CNA, CMA, RMA, RN, or LPN experience within the last five years or initial certification/licensure obtained within the last two years.
