As a School Health Aide, you will assist in supporting the instructional program by creating a climate of health and well-being in the school and addressing the health needs of the school community, consistent with CSUSA's goals.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic healthcare to students and staff.
- Perform health screenings.
- Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment.
- Consult with other school professionals, such as food service personnel, physical education teachers, coaches, and counselors.
- Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings.
- Monitor immunizations, manage communicable diseases, and assess the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety.
- Oversee infection control measures.
- Actively participate in school safety plans that address school violence, bullying, and emergencies.
- Oversee medication administration, health care procedures, and the development of healthcare plans.
- Oversee vision, hearing, body mass index, and mental health screening procedures.
- Make decisions related to the delegation of healthcare tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance.
- Provide health advice to school educational teams, such as the Committee on Special Education and the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) team.
- Perform clinical duties, including:
- Take vital signs.
- Collect patient medical history and information.
- Prepare and clean clinic areas.
- Prepare and administer medications.
- Log patient visits and keep appropriate records.
- Properly dispose of waste and contaminated materials.
- Perform administrative duties, including:
- Answer phones.
- Follow up with patients regarding questions.
- Log patient information.
- Create and manage school health records.
- Track and order supplies.
Requirements
- CPR Certified.
- CNA Certification, LPA License, or College Education preferred.
- Minimum of 1-year successful experience as a nurse's assistant or clinical assistant (preferred).
- Such alternatives to the above requirements as CSUSA may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Proficiency with school software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and time management.
- Ability to interact with all school stakeholders.
Work Environment
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the work environment includes usual office working conditions.
