About the role
The City and County of Denver has a opening for a Court Interpreter (Spanish) to perform full performance interpreting work for Denver County Court including administrative tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Interprets in court proceedings, trials, arraignments, and hearings.
- Maintains and files reference materials and monitors interpreting equipment.
- Trains assigned employees, checks employee work, and provides orientation for new interpreters.
- Affords assistance with review and approval of bills for payment of contract interpreter services.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate plus two years of experience working in a professional capacity as an interpreter with Non-English speaking persons.
- A combination of appropriate education and experience may substitute for the minimum education and experience requirement.
- Possession of a Certified Interpreter credential issued by Denver County Court, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Court, National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators, or the Consortium at the time of this application. Certification must be maintained for the Colorado Court Interpreter Program.
About You

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate and two years performing as a Court Interpreter interpreting from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
- Additional appropriate education beyond High School/GED (Such as a Baccalaureate Degree (B.A.) in linguistics, cultural issues, public or court administration or related field) that could be substituted for the two years of experience performing as a Court Interpreter interpreting from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
- Possession of certification as an interpreter issued by Denver County Court, the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts (Federal), the Consortium, NAJIT, California, or an Interpreter Certificate recognized by the State Court Administrator's Office of Colorado.
Skills
Experience providing interpretation and linguistic communication services in complex and evidentiary court for defendants, witnesses and litigants.
