School Crossing Aide

The School Crossing Aide supports the daily flow of pedestrian movement near designated school crossing areas, assisting school-aged children and families as they navigate to and from school. This role maintains a visible and approachable presence during assigned times, helping to guide crossing activity in an organized and consistent manner while representing the community in a positive and professional way. Responsibilities Provide guidance to school-aged children and pedestrians at designated crossing locations during assigned timesMaintain a visible and attentive presence to support orderly crossing activity before and after school hoursCommunicate clearly and professionally with children, parents, and community membersPromote a positive and welcoming environment through friendly and respectful interactionsFollow established procedures and schedules to ensure consistency in daily operationsReport observations, concerns, or unusual activity to the appropriate team members for follow-up Requirements Qualifications & Experience High school diploma or equivalentMust be at least 18 years of ageReliable transportationStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to interact with residents, parents, and children in a professional and courteous mannerAbility to work outdoors in various weather conditions and stand or walk for extended periods during scheduled shiftsMust pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening Skills & Competencies Service Orientation: Demonstrates a friendly, approachable, and community-focused attitudeCommunication Skills: Communicates clearly and respectfully with children, families, and team membersReliability & Consistency: Arrives on time and follows assigned schedules and proceduresAwareness & Attention: Maintains awareness of surroundings and pedestrian activityProfessional Presence: Represents the community in a positive and professional manner Physical Requirements The physical requirements can vary, but generally, they may include: Lifting: May require occasional lifting and carrying of lightweight equipment or materials, typically up to 25 poundsMobility: Requires the ability to stand, walk, and move within designated crossing areas for extended periods of time, including navigating curbs, sidewalks, and roadwaysWorking conditions: Requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, sun exposure, wind, and rain, as well as near active roadways during peak traffic timesPersonal protective gear: Requires the use of standard visibility equipment, such as reflective vests and handheld signage, to support clear visibility and communication in designated areasManual Dexterity: Requires the use of hands and arms to hold and operate basic equipment (e.g., handheld signs or communication devices) and perform simple, repetitive motions during assigned dutiesDriving: Ability to operate a vehicle to perform certain job functions.
