About the role
The Guidance Counselor position at our school is under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Services. The role involves assisting students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities, helping them make course and subject selections, and coordinating with teachers and community organizations to provide information on educational and career opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Assists students in interpreting standardized test scores and developing education and occupation plans.
- Aids in the scheduling of classes and disseminates information about occupational opportunities.
- Coordinates with administrators and teaching staff to evaluate individual student needs, including those with special needs.
- Researches educational and career opportunities and collaborates with teachers, college representatives, and business organizations.
- Supports new students during registration and orientation, and assists with dropout prevention efforts.
- Provides counseling to promote personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
- Organizes and maintains accurate records for student information, including college and employment referrals.
- Encourages parental involvement and communicates effectively with students and parents.
- Assists in the orientation of new teachers and provides in-service training in guidance.
Requirements
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education-related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. Prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level is preferred. State certification as a Guidance Counselor is required, along with a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or the ability to provide one’s own transportation.
