School Counselor

About the role

WRSD is seeking a qualified School Counselor to provide individual and group counseling for deaf and hard of hearing students in a Total Communication setting. The Counselor will work with teaching staff to develop behavior programs; subscribe to and support the school's educational and communication philosophy; and provide services and direction to parents and families of our students in the areas of communication, behavioral plans, medical issues, and social/emotional growth.

Primary Duties

• Provide weekly counseling sessions to students assigned to caseload.
• Provide weekly group counseling sessions.
• Act as a liaison to the school for new students and families.
• Provide home visits to families as needed.
• Develop behavioral plans, teach sign language to family members and assist families with required paperwork.
• Position may require flexible hours.

Requirements

• Graduate degree (i.e. MA, MS, M.Ed).
• MA licensure as a School Adjustment Counselor or the ability to obtain licensure.
• Fluent sign language skills.
• Ability to adapt to communication methodology to fit the needs of the student or family.
• Experience working with students age 3–22.
• Experience working in a school setting.

Salary: $52,680—$97,881 annually, based on degree(s) and experience.
