Duties And Responsibilities

  • Support the cleaning and maintenance of the building.
  • Complete daily cleaning checklists for each assigned room and follow established deep-cleaning schedules.
  • Notify management of the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Secure the building daily by shutting off lights and conducting a walk-through of the entire building to ensure all windows and doors are closed and secured at the end of the shift.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Follow procedures for the use of floor-cleaning equipment and products to maintain flooring and prevent damage.
  • Perform basic electrical, plumbing, and handyman repairs, including painting, replacing light bulbs, assembling and repairing furniture, and completing light carpentry.
  • Maintain inventory levels of maintenance materials and supplies.
  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Cook up classroom and building moves that require moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Coordinate event setup and breakdown, including arranging or removing decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, scaffolding, and other materials for events, banquets, or meetings.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Pivot priorities quickly and respond effectively to interruptions throughout the day.
  • Spread rock salt, sand, or other appropriate materials to help ensure staff and student safety.
  • Assist with snow removal as needed.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least one year of custodial, janitorial, or cleaning experience is required.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and, in some cases, may need to implement CPI procedures, including therapeutic holds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift at least 50–65 pounds and assist and/or physically support students, which may include lifting or guiding students of varying sizes.
  • Ability to physically intervene when required to ensure safety, in accordance with CPI training.
  • Ability to quickly remove oneself and/or others from unsafe situations.
  • Ability to maintain attention and focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment.
  • Ability to multitask and shift priorities quickly.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions, particularly in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships.
  • Ability to perform duties under stress, including during behavioral escalations.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to move freely throughout the building without restrictions.
