School Bus Driver

Position Summary

The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting scholars to and from school and extracurricular activities while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service. This position plays an important role in ensuring that every scholar arrives safely and is greeted with a positive attitude each day.

Essential Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes while following all federal, state, and school transportation regulations.
• Transport scholars to and from school, athletic competitions, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities.
• Load and unload scholars safely at designated locations.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment on the bus.
• Communicate professionally with scholars, parents, staff, administrators, and community members.
• Carry out required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Monitor the condition of tires, brakes, lights, windshield, wipers, fuel, emergency equipment, and other safety features.
• Ensure all scholars have exited the bus before completing each route.
• Report maintenance concerns, accidents, traffic violations, or safety issues promptly.
• Inventory emergency and first-aid equipment and notify the Transportation Supervisor of needed supplies.
• Follow established emergency evacuation procedures and complete required documentation when necessary.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• A valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements preferred but not required at the time of application.
• A clean driving record.
• Ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and physical examinations.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• A commitment to scholar safety and dependable attendance.
