About the Role
ASDB Chaperones assist drivers as a team, interacting with the driver and students. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment and random drug testing.
ASL (American Sign Language) is not required for this role, but may be needed if working with deaf staff/students.
Responsibilities
- Ensure students are safely seated throughout the bus route
- Maintain appropriate student behavior
- Work with parents and staff regarding specific methods of assistance
- Perform bus evacuation procedures when necessary
- Communicate information and instructions effectively to students and staff
- Lift non-ambulatory students and equipment using proper lifting procedures
- Understand and follow written policies, procedures, and regulations
Requirements
- Ability to bend, lift, and secure students on the bus
- Good communication, teamwork, and physical fitness
- Ability to read and write English
- Must pass FBI and State background checks
- Must obtain CIT (Crisis Intervention Training), CPR, and First Aid certification if working directly with students
- Must pass a post-offer physical
- Completion of Defensive Driver Training Program for personnel driving on state business
