About the Role
Chaperones assist drivers as a team, interacting with the driver and students. ASL is not required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Ensure students are safely seated throughout the bus route
- Maintain appropriate student behavior
- Work with parents and staff regarding specific methods of assistance
- Follow bus evacuation procedures
- Communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand
- Lift non-ambulatory students and equipment
- Individual positions may be responsible for some or all of the listed duties and/or other related duties
Requirements
- Ability to bend, lift, and secure about the bus
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physically fit
- Ability to read and write English
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and programs of the immediate work unit
- Understanding of principles and practices of administration and management
- Familiarity with agency or program rules, regulations, and operating procedures
- Skilled in proper lifting procedures
- Experience working with sensory-impaired children
Qualifications
- Must be able to pass FBI and State background check
- Must obtain CIT (Crisis Intervention Training), CPR, and First Aid certification (for positions working directly with students)
- Must be able to pass post-offer physical
- ASL (American Sign Language) skills if working with deaf staff/students
- Completion of Defensive Driver Training Program for personnel driving on state business
Special Conditions
- This is a safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment drug testing and subject to random drug testing for the duration of employment
