School Aged Program Manager

Make a difference in your community by managing the daily operations of all school-aged and youth enrichment programs, including summer day camp. Provide operational leadership to ensure high-quality programming that meets community needs and organizational goals for enrollment, quality, member experience, and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Member and Program Experience
    • Increase member/participant connection and commitment to YMCA programs, ensuring experiences align with YMCA goals for engagement and retention.
    • Address inquiries from members and prospective members, adapting tools and processes to enhance their experience.
    • Monitor program registration trends and customize the program portfolio to meet community needs.
    • Collaborate with peers and leaders to promote programs through multiple channels and participate in community events.
    • Coordinate with membership/contact center to ensure accurate and timely transactions (collections, refunds, etc.).
    • Participate in direct service as needed to facilitate program operations.
    • Collaborate with other center teams to ensure a high-quality member experience.
  • Team Management
    • Lead, manage, and motivate a high-performing team to achieve program objectives.
    • Establish, monitor, and evaluate team goals and performance standards, providing coaching and development.
    • Mentor staff to deliver safe, engaging, and well-organized program services.
    • Complete formal staff evaluations, performance reviews, and provide coaching or intervention as needed.
    • Hire, onboard, and train new staff, ensuring compliance with required trainings and certifications.
    • Facilitate all-staff meetings and in-services.
    • Manage time and attendance, ensuring accurate recording in the HRIS system.
    • Recruit and train volunteers to meet program needs.
  • Program Management
    • Manage program budget, including forecasting revenue, expenses, and program margins to meet financial targets.
    • Oversee program guides, customer management systems, and online registration to market programs effectively.
    • Adhere to YMCA standards for supervised departments, ensuring facilities are safe, clean, and welcoming.
    • Identify, escalate, and rectify potential risks to the safety, health, or well-being of members, participants, or employees.
    • Support the YMCA’s mission and center operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Recreation Management, Education, or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in youth and family programming, with at least 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Meets credentialing requirements for DCFS licensing, where applicable.
  • Commitment to and passion for the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals through others, whether direct reports or through influence.
  • Strategic thinking skills, including planning, goal-setting, progress monitoring, and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Customer service orientation with strong communication skills to build relationships and manage expectations.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), email, and ability to adapt to new technology.
  • Meet physical qualifications as outlined in the job description (reasonable accommodations provided).
  • Willingness to register with the Gateways Registry and complete required online training for the designated program area.

Child Abuse Prevention

  • Report any health or safety hazards to your supervisor.
  • Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe, including monitoring and supervision.
  • Report any suspicious behavior or policy violations to your supervisor.
  • Complete all required child abuse prevention training.

Pay

Salary range for this position starts at $43,888 per year.
