Job Responsibilities
- Working as part of the site team to ensure a safe and challenging environment for school age participants.
- Implementing YMCA core values, gym and group games, and arts and crafts.
- Independently leading and supervising children in small and large group activities.
- Adhering to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Attending staff meetings and trainings.
- Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Maintaining an open, friendly, professional relationship with staff, parents, participants, and community members.
- Maintaining confidentiality of YMCA issues, incidents, and records.
- Being on time for all shifts and flexible to accommodate unexpected schedule changes.
- Providing leadership and support to Program Aides and Volunteers.
- Practicing positive guidance and preventative discipline techniques to participants with natural consequences in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and expectations.
Requirements
- Age 18 years or older.
- Provide documentation of 480 hours of experience working directly with school-age children in areas such as Sunday school, Scouts, sports, or babysitting.
- Become certified or supply documentation of current certification in CPR and First Aid (can be completed through the YMCA).
- Work well on a team, communicate well with youth, parents, and colleagues, and be committed to high-quality programming.
Qualifications
Essential functions are the fundamental job duties, meaning the position exists to perform the function; there is a limited number of employees among whom the performance of the function can be distributed; and/or the incumbent is hired for expertise or ability to perform the function due to its high specialization.
Physical Demands/Functional Attributes
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- General Physical Requirements: Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, visual acuity, and working conditions.
Pay and Benefits
- The salary range is $17.00-$18.00 per hour based on experience, availability, and state licensing guidelines.
- This position is part-time, year-round with opportunities for full-time during the summer season.
