Scheduling Specialist - Orthopedic Specialists of Midlothian
About the Role
As a Scheduling Specialist at Orthopedic Specialists of Midlothian, you will coordinate and schedule patient testing or procedures, interacting with physician offices, healthcare providers, and departmental staff to ensure timely patient scheduling. You will obtain scheduling orders, instruct patients, and enter data into the hospital computer system. Your role is crucial in maintaining accurate records, ensuring pre-certification, and providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Gather and interpret complex patient data from physician offices and patients daily to schedule testing, surgical procedures, and pre-certification.
- Provide hospital-approved instructions to physician office staff and patients regarding test preparation.
- Answer questions related to testing, scheduling, and preparation, referring patients to specialty staff when necessary.
- Enter patient scheduling information, update demographics and insurance details, and provide pre-registration forms.
- Resolve discrepancies in testing/procedures and find solutions to scheduling issues.
- Obtain approval for non-routine appointments and check medical necessity at the time of scheduling.
- Coordinate scheduling with multiple facilities or departments for outpatient appointments.
- Compile and prepare statistical data as requested by the department supervisor.
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and relaying data.
- Maintain a strong customer focus and handle all calls professionally.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred)
- Combination of post-secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Skills
- Experience with data entry (preferred)
- Typing speed of 45-50 WPM (preferred)
Pay
Range: $17.25 - $25.87
