About the role

The Scheduling Specialist at St. Francis Cancer Center plays a crucial role in coordinating and scheduling patient testing or procedures, ensuring timely appointments and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and/or patients to enable scheduling of tests, surgeries, and pre-certification when necessary.
  • Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system, updates demographic and insurance information, and provides pre-registration forms.
  • Communicates with patients and physicians about test preparation and scheduling instructions.
  • Works with departments to schedule urgent and non-routine appointments.
  • Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested by the department supervisor.
  • Handles administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data relay as needed.
  • Promotes a positive customer focus and handles inquiries with professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience with data entry (preferred)
  • Typing speed of 45-50 WPM (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of provider and payer systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with hospital computer systems
