About the role

The Scheduling Specialist coordinates and schedules patient testing or procedures, ensuring timely appointments and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and interprets patient data from physician offices and patients to enable scheduling of tests, surgeries, and pre-certification when needed.
  • Enters patient scheduling information into the hospital computer system, updates demographic and insurance information, and provides pre-registration forms.
  • Answers questions about testing, scheduling, and test preparation, and refers patients to specialty area staff as necessary.
  • Checks for medical necessity during scheduling and coordinates with departments to schedule urgent cases.
  • Compiles and prepares statistical data as requested by the department supervisor.
  • Handles administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, and data relay as assigned.
  • Promotes a positive customer focus and manages interactions with patients and healthcare providers professionally.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Associate degree in business, healthcare, or related field (preferred)
  • Experience with data entry (preferred)
  • Typing speed of 45-50 WPM (preferred)

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
