Position Summary

Cook up all patient care functions utilizing the five (5) Simply Better steps with every patient and team member interaction for surgical services that include: scheduling office visits, procedure(s) at external/internal locations and obtaining needed information/documentation for patient to meet the requirements for surgical services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Assists in the coordination of the Patient Procedure/Surgical schedule: work with hospital/facility block time and providers schedules.
  • Collaborates in the management and scheduling of complex procedural or surgical procedures that may require multiple appointments, as well as add-ons and emergent procedures, facilitating communication between patients, physicians, multiple departments, facilities, and staff members.
  • Cordinate with patients Primary Care Provider for Pre-Op study requirements.
  • Ensure all referrals, insurance, & authorizations are obtained prior to surgery/procedure. Verify patient demographics, insurance and pharmacy information.
  • Maintain knowledge of computer scheduling functions using proper registration protocols with all new patients. Edit existing patient data as needed and utilize appropriate visit types.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding changes in schedule, issues, and physician office concerns.
  • One week prior to procedure, contact patient to confirm appointment, review all necessary instructions, forms and procedure preparations are completed.
  • Process specialist requests correctly and prioritize based on urgency
  • Respond in a timely manner, to inquiries about medical group concerning insurance coverage, specialty providers, claim issues, disability questions, and general information.
  • Work in conjunction with other departments to educate patients, physicians and staff about insurance related protocols/benefits
  • Cordinate ambulatory care discharge activities requested by physician. Review and promote compliance with patient care plan.
  • Document in patient chart in a timely manner.
  • Obtain outside medical records/reports as required and provide to physician as needed.
  • Perform any additional or miscellaneous duties as requested by the management team within the scope of knowledge and ability.

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in medical field (Medical Assistant, Customer Service Representative, Front Office Assistant, or other) in ambulatory care preferred.
  • Prior medical office experience preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of customer service in any field and have worked with computers.

Education

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Strong knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
  • Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider required
