Scheduler Assistant / Interpreter Services

About the role

The Interpreter Services Scheduler/Assistant provides support to the Interpreter Services program at Miami Valley Hospital. This role evaluates and coordinates daily language interpretation requests to ensure timely delivery of services to limited English proficiency (LEP) and deaf patients.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and coordinate daily language interpretation requests
• Schedule appointments with language vendors
• Interpret medically for Spanish-speaking patients as assigned
• Maintain an accurate log of interpreting service concerns/requests
• Work with the System Interpreter Services Coordinator to ensure compliance with policies and legal requirements regarding communication with LEP and deaf patients
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and other sensitive information
• Provide occasional clerical support to the Integrated Care Management Department, including ordering supplies, processing maintenance requests, etc.

Requirements

• Fluent in English and Spanish
• Excellent verbal, telephone, and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to interact with and understand people from diverse backgrounds
• Exceptional organizational skills
• Prior experience as a Spanish interpreter
• High attention to detail and strong time management skills
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Able to maintain the security of patient and other confidential information

Qualifications

• High School completion / GED
• Medical Spanish interpreter certification or experience in the field
• Notary from county of residence a plus
