About the role

The Penn State School of Theatre seeks candidates for the position of Scenic Art Supervisor. This is a non-tenure line, 36-week 1-year term appointment at the rank of Clinical Lecturer to begin in the fall 2026 semester.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching Scene Painting and Advanced Scene Painting offered to both graduate and undergraduate students
  • Supervising all aspects of the paint shop operations
  • Maintaining stock, equipment, and paint shop facility
  • Supervising graduate and undergraduate crews
  • Mentoring student Charge Artists and/or serving as Charge Scenic Artist on a six show School of Theatre season
  • Painting scenery as necessary

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability to actively participate in all aspects of paint shop operations, including maintaining the HAZCOM Program
  • Professional scene painting experience
  • Teaching experience (preferred)
  • Experience supervising crews (preferred)

Pay

This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

Schedule

The start date is set for the fall 2026 semester.
