Assistant/Associate/Professor of Practice (Pathology Supervisor)

Responsibilities

• Provide necropsy and biopsy diagnostic pathology services across all species (excluding nonhuman primates).
• Coordinate case management, including records oversight, client communication, and facilitation of ancillary testing with internal and external laboratories.
• Maintain competency in cytologic evaluation to support diagnostics.
• Represent the laboratory at meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements, and support outreach to regulatory agencies, industry partners, and the veterinary community.
• Lead and contribute to research initiatives that enhance diagnostic capabilities and surveillance efforts.
• Oversee a small team of technicians, fostering cross-training, workflow coordination, mentoring, and professional development.
• Promote a collaborative, positive laboratory culture and ensure team adherence to laboratory safety, biosafety, quality assurance, and regulatory standards.
• Career Track Appointment: Not eligible for tenure.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree (or international equivalent) required.
• Board certification or board eligibility in veterinary pathology (ACVP or ECVP) is required, Anatomic pathologist preferred but Clinical pathologists are welcome to apply.
• A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience is required, including at least two years in a managerial or supervisor role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

• Broad knowledge of veterinary anatomic pathology, including necropsy and surgical biopsy diagnostics across multiple species.
• Competency in diagnostic cytology evaluation is also desirable.
• Ability to lead and mentor a small laboratory team, with strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Skills

Experience:

• Interpreting and communicating diagnostic case findings.
• Understanding of regulatory testing programs and providing guidance to clients.
• Teaching veterinary students in discussion-based learning.
• Experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory environment.
