Job Summary
About the role
A scale operator in an aggregate environment is responsible for accurately weighing materials entering and exiting a site, recording the information, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Accurately weighing trucks and materials using computerized scales, recording gross and net weights, and verifying load information.
- Maintaining detailed records of all transactions, including truck details, material types, and weights, often using specialized software.
- Providing excellent customer service to drivers and other visitors, answering questions, and ensuring a positive experience.
- Communicating with other departments (e.g., dispatch, operations) via radio or other means to coordinate material movement and ensure efficient operations.
- Ensuring the safety of the scale house and surrounding area, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and adhering to company safety protocols.
- Performing general administrative tasks, balancing daily receipts, and assisting with other duties as needed.
- Working with the Sales Team on pending and on-going projects.
- Works closely with sales and dispatch to enhance our service to customers and to maximize job site trucking efficiency, including standby mitigation.
Requirements
- Must have your high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a customer service or weighmaster role is preferred.
- Prior experience in the aggregate or construction industry is helpful, but not always required.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
- Able to work varying work schedule, nights and weekends or circumstances to meet the customer needs (DOT requirements).
Qualifications
- Must have effective written and oral communication skills.
- Basic math skills are needed for calculations related to weights and volumes.
- Must have organizational skills with a focus on the prioritization of workload.
- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, dependable, timely, and reliable.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, Oracle Business Environment, and other software packages relevant to the position.
- Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
- Able to address minor issues that may arise during the weighing process.
- Familiarity with safety regulations like MSHA Part 46 is a plus.
