SCADA System Coordinator (WPRO)

OUC – The Reliable One, Florida’s second-largest municipal utility, is seeking a SCADA Systems Coordinator for our Water Production division. This role supports and maintains WPRO’s SCADA system to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our water treatment facilities.

About the role

This is a highly technical position involving maintaining and operating WPRO’s SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which provides remote automatic control of WPRO’s water treatment facilities from a central location.

Responsibilities

  • Network Support
    • Perform weekly checks of all SCADA, view and server workstations.
    • Monitor operational status of backup software; change and maintain Water Production network back-up tapes.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve network communications issues. When appropriate, coordinate this task with the Network Administrator.
    • Monitor the Water Production network’s performance and report issues to the Network Administrator.
    • Work with the Network Administrator on database development and maintenance.
    • Maintain and update all Water Production workstation and server usernames and passwords.
  • Operations Support
    • Assume the duties and responsibilities of the WPRO Operations Supervisor in their absence.
    • Maintain and update the SCADA software picture files.
    • Modify or create graphics to reflect process changes or new hardware installed in field, or changes requested by the WPRO Operations Supervisor.
    • Provide SCADA training as required.
    • Coordinate process modification requests from the WPRO Operations Supervisor.
    • Maintain and update SCADA databases to align with PLC logic.
    • Work with WPRO instrument techs to test SCADA graphics functionality.
    • Work with WPRO technicians in troubleshooting and resolving software and hardware issues.
    • Maintain an inventory of Water Production software and licenses.
    • Work with the Network Administrator to configure and deploy new SCADA nodes.
  • Other Functions
    • Create report formats for automated SCADA data reporting.
    • Install new SCADA hardware and software and VIEW nodes (PCs), including adding new control points.
    • Troubleshoot all SCADA and I/O communication issues in Operations.
    • Train operations and maintenance staff on SCADA system functions and plant process controls changes.
    • May provide mentoring to the Shift Operators, on a limited basis.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Class A Florida Department of Environmental Protection Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator’s License
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a water production operation environment, to include:
    • Minimum of one (1) year working with software and hardware specific to the needs of the Water Production Division.
    • Experience maintaining and operating SCADA systems in a water treatment facility

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and supervision of water treatment operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of water treatment operation principles, practices, procedures, equipment, treatment chemistry of groundwater’s, chemical handling and safety pertaining to potable water production including knowledge of OSHA standards and policies, all Federal and State regulatory requirements for water treatment parameters under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer systems and networks with the ability to perform system maintenance, maintain host computers, perform system backups, and purge and audit the system files.
  • Considerable knowledge related to instrumentation and mechanical technology practices, methods, materials, and tools.

Working Conditions

  • Occasional exposure to heights, confined areas, and excessive noise.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme weather, noxious fumes, chemicals, and insects.

Physical Requirements

  • Very Frequent: sitting, typing/CRT (attention to detail), speaking, and hearing.
  • Frequent: walking, lifting 0-20 lbs., lifting 21-40 lbs., kneeling, crawling, standing, bending/stooping, detailed inspection/reading/editing, and writing.
  • Rare: lifting 50+ lbs., pushing, pulling, and/or digging, reaching overhead, and climbing (ladders, stairs, hills).
  • Occasional: driving of company vehicles.

Pay

Starting at $45.608 per hour (Estimated $94,864.64 annually) with a structured step progression system and performance-based pay increases every 6 months up to $57.441 per hour (Estimated $119,477.28 annually).
