SCADA & Network Engineer
About the role
Sungrow North America is seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled SCADA Network Engineer to support utility-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects within the Sungrow COE organization.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Configure, troubleshoot, and validate industrial communication systems including: Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, CANbus, RS-485 serial communications, OPC UA, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
- Implement, deploy, and support SCADA systems for utility-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects.
- Cookordinate communication and integration between: BESS systems, PCS equipment, EMS platforms, utility SCADA systems, PLCs, third-party monitoring systems, and customer OT infrastructure.
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) by documenting results, troubleshooting issues, and validating reliable telemetry and data acquisition.
- Diagnose and resolve communication, telemetry, and network performance issues using: Protocol analyzers, network monitoring tools, device logs, packet captures, register mapping validation.
- Configure and support SCADA/HMI platforms including: Inductive Automation Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk, Siemens WinCC, similar industrial SCADA platforms.
- Support industrial historian and data platforms such as: AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI), Canary Historian, InfluxDB, other similar historian platforms.
- Configure and troubleshoot industrial middleware and integration tools including: Kepware (KEPServerEX), OPC servers, MQTT brokers, protocol gateways, serial-to-Ethernet converters.
- Support Linux and Windows based industrial systems such as: CLI/terminal operations, networking diagnostics, service/process management, remote access tools, system configuration and troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation involving: Communication maps, network diagrams, integration procedures, register maps, troubleshooting guides, commissioning documentation.
- Support remote and onsite commissioning activities and field troubleshooting as required.
- Aid in maintaining cybersecurity best practices for OT and SCADA environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, SCADA integration, industrial networking, or energy storage systems.
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems and command-line environments.
- Experience troubleshooting industrial communication networks and field devices.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols including: Modbus TCP/RTU, CANbus, RS-485, OPC UA, DNP3, IEC 61850, MQTT.
- Experience with one or more SCADA/HMI platforms: Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk, Siemens WinCC, similar industrial SCADA platforms.
- Experience with industrial historians and data platforms such as: AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI), Canary Historian, InfluxDB, other similar historian platforms.
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure including: Managed switches, VLANs, firewalls, industrial ethernet devices.
- Familiarity with: IEC 61850, DNP3, MQTT, cybersecurity standards for OT systems.
- Experience using: Wireshark, serial analyzers, protocol simulators, VPN and remote connectivity tools.
- Experience with scripting or automation tools such as: Python, Bash, PowerShell.

Work Location and Status
Contract role, Remote.
Compensation
Compensation commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package and employee programs.
For candidates in the states of California, Colorado, New York and Washington, the anticipated annual base salary for this role is between $115,000 - $135,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The base salary offered is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, qualifications, experience, education, location, or other factors related to the role.
