Sanitation Technician

This job description outlines the essential functions of the role; however, it does not limit or dictate the specific tasks that may be assigned. This is an on-site, full-time position requiring work at the plant.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with safety policies, OSHA regulations, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Thoroughly disassemble, clean, and reassemble equipment and conveyors and return to operational state.
  • Execute thorough cleaning and sanitation procedures according to protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of sanitation activities, including cleaning schedules and sanitation logs.
  • Monitor wastewater system and inventory of cleaning supplies; notify supervisor when replenishment is needed.
  • Follow all safety precautions, including proper isolation of live circuits and LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) procedures.
  • Use common maintenance equipment and hand tools, ensuring proper care and safety.
  • Handle hazardous waste accumulation after training.
  • Work with bio-hazards such as bloodborne pathogens, sewage, and waste.
  • Ensure food product quality and safety.
  • Perform temporary job assignments to other shifts or departments as needed.
  • Work with hot water, pressure washers, and steam systems safely.
  • Work in high temperatures, at heights, and in environments with strong smells, dust, gases, fumes, or chemicals requiring personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required; technical or trade school courses or certification preferred.
  • 3 years of sanitation experience within a food processing, bottling, liquid filling/blending, or consumer goods manufacturing/packing environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in using handheld tools (e.g., hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches).
  • General knowledge of electrical test equipment such as multimeters and ammeters.
  • Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, simple division).
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new job-related software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of personnel and perform on-call duty on any shift.
  • Willingness to work overtime on short notice and accept long-term temporary assignments to any shift.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to see, sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, reach, bend, twist, ascend/descend.
  • Ability to pull, push, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.; 50+ lbs. with assistance.
  • Continuous mental and visual attention required for repetitive or diversified work.

Pay

Compensation range: $19.25 – $22.00 per hour. Bonuses based on plant quarterly results.

Schedule

3rd shift, full-time, on-site position. Temporary assignments to other shifts or departments may be required.
