About the Role

Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry, specializing in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Wakefield, Nebraska location, known as the Baseball Capital of Nebraska, raises chickens and produces liquid egg for processing facilities.

This position is responsible for overall equipment cleanliness and sanitation of the breaking areas.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall equipment cleanliness and sanitation of the department area.
  • Accountable for performing daily, weekly, and monthly master sanitation schedules for the department area.
  • Responsible for daily pre-op inspections and following daily production start-up procedures.
  • Cross-trained in two sanitation jobs.
  • Report any equipment or mechanical problems.
  • Use team efforts when inspecting the area.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, following GMPs, maintaining sanitary conditions, and ensuring product quality. Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.
  • Follow duties aligned with plant goals without prompting.
  • Follow good manufacturing practices (GMPs), proper protective equipment (PPE), and lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) guidelines without prompting.
  • Reference the CP Manual for questions about the sanitation program.
  • Understand and follow chemical handling procedures for caustics, acids, quats, bleach, and peracetic acid.
  • Conduct effective pre-op inspections to RTE (Ready-to-Eat) standards.
  • Consistently titrate correctly.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education.
  • Previous sanitation experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
  • Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out oral instructions.
  • Must be able to perform multiple tasks at a time.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with others to complete work assignments.
  • Open to change and maintains positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction.
  • Displays responsible behavior at work.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of safely lifting 75 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty, and humid environments.
  • Ability to tolerate constant motion.
  • Able to climb and move above, below, and into tight spaces.
  • Ability to work in high humidity conditions and around USDA-required cleaning solutions.
  • Must be free of any breathing or asthmatic conditions, as dusty and aromatic conditions prevail.
