About the Role
Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry, specializing in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. Our Wakefield facility is one of the largest production plants within Michael Foods, operating as a flex plant capable of producing a wide range of products, from whole pasteurized eggs to liquid, dried, hardboiled eggs, and curds.
This position is responsible for the overall equipment cleanliness and sanitation of the assigned department area, ensuring compliance with safety, food safety, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Maintain overall equipment cleanliness and sanitation of the department area.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly master sanitation schedules for the department area.
- Follow daily production start-up procedures.
- Cross-train in various sanitation jobs.
- Report any equipment or mechanical problems.
- Collaborate with the team to inspect the area.
- Follow plant goals proactively without prompting.
- Reference the CP Manual for questions about the sanitation program.
- Understand and follow chemical handling procedures for caustics, acids, quats, bleach, and peracetic acid.
- Conduct effective pre-operational inspections to RTE (Ready-to-Eat) standards.
- Consistently titrate chemicals correctly.
- Replace gaskets as needed.
- Perform daily pre-op inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Maintain sanitary conditions and ensure product quality; report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
- Work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- No prior experience or training required.
- Prior manufacturing and/or sanitation experience preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a company pallet jack license.
- Experience with pallet jack and/or forklift preferred.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Basic math skills: ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must demonstrate open, honest, and effective communication.
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively in a team environment.
- Able to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, depending on the assignment.
- Self-motivated, willing to ask questions, and seek direction when needed.
- Displays responsible behavior and is open to change.
- Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty, and humid environments.
- Ability to work around required cleaning solutions.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
- Able to stand on hard surfaces for most of the shift, ascend and descend stairs, bend, stoop, crouch, grasp, and reach.
