Sanitation Supervisor (night shift)

The Sanitation Supervisor oversees and directs the activities of Sanitors, ensuring compliance with Sara Lee Frozen Bakery and regulatory standards so products meet company and customer specifications, and provides support to all cross‑functional teams of the bakery. The role supports programs such as SQF, HACCP/HARPC, Quality & Standard Sanitation Operating Programs (SSOP).
Responsibilities
- Supervise sanitation department hourly employees, providing direction and coaching on sanitation, production, safety, food safety, and quality assurance.
- Coordinate overall sanitation department duties with the Sanitation Manager and other Sanitation Supervisors.
- Maintain chemical inventory control system; perform weekly inventory of sanitation chemicals and non‑chemical supplies.
- Ensure effective cleanliness of equipment and facilities in all production areas.
- Schedule workflow for plant sanitation functions on each shift.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with Production, Receiving, Maintenance, B&R, WWTP, QA, and other plant departments.
- Maintain repair schedules on all sanitation equipment (foamers, scissor lifts, etc.).
- Facilitate and lead team meetings.
- Champion new initiatives that help meet and exceed aggressive performance targets.
- Promote good employee relations to maintain a positive working environment.
- Establish a safe work environment, recognizing and considering all potential hazards.
- Perform within environmental safety and GMP guidelines.
- Coach through demonstration and feedback to team members.
- Drive accountability and discipline within the team.
- Maintain a daily presence within work areas to support the team.
- A trained designee will be appointed by plant management to cover for absences or vacancies.
Requirements
- Associate degree required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Sanitation/Environmental Studies or related field preferred, along with 1‑3 years manufacturing and management experience; OR other education in a related field with 3‑5 years of experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in an industrial setting, preferably in food plant sanitation.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulatory requirements for food plant sanitation.
- Knowledge of industrial sanitation chemicals and cleaning methods (CIP, COP, other automated systems, etc.).
- Sound knowledge of SSOPs and company GMPs.
- Familiarity with ATP swabbing systems.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work with cross‑functional departments.
- Good problem‑solving skills.
- Strong computer skills with experience using Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; NetSuite experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership in food safety and plant regulatory affairs.
- Comprehensive experience with FDA and/or USDA rules and regulations.
- Strong ability to prioritize tasks.
Physical Requirements
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, bump cap, hair net, steel toe & slip‑resistant safety/rubber boots, sanitation gloves, goggles, face shield, etc.).
- Ability to work in hot environments up to 102 °F for intervals of 45 minutes.
- Ability to work in cold and/or wet environments down to 0 °F.
- Ability to constantly stand, stoop, walk, bend, push, or pull for the duration of a shift (up to 12 hours).
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work in production or warehouse storage areas.
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs.
- Ability to perform possible pre‑op duties and/or read paperwork and labels.
Supervisory Information
- Hourly employees report to this position (20‑30).
- Reports to: Sanitation Manager.
Shift
Nights: 11 pm – 7 am (Sun‑Thu) with required weekends as needed.
