Sanitation Supervisor-1st shift

About the Role

A Sanitation Supervisor enforces policies and procedures surrounding food safety and hygiene. They examine all manufacturing equipment to ensure proper function and compliance with governmental standards, develop corrective plans for violations, and consult with management on compliance issues and process improvements. This role maintains relationships with chemical and pest control vendors, develops and delivers sanitation training programs, and keeps detailed records of inspections, violations, and resolutions. The Sanitation Supervisor ensures Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Cost expectations are met while driving sustainable improvements across shifts in collaboration with plant leadership and employees.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the sanitation process to ensure health and safety guidelines are followed and continual improvement toward an injury-free operation.
• Ensure key performance indicators in Sanitation areas are met or exceeded.
• Develop and track improvements in the use and efficiency of Sanitation labor resources.
• Coordinate and implement standard operating procedures for key Sanitation operations.
• Ensure Sanitation processes do not detract from on-time, high-quality production.
• Manage adherence to prescribed procedures to meet or exceed quality (sanitation-related) goals; collaborate with the Quality Manager/Supervisor.
• Ensure availability of human and material resources (chemicals, tools, etc.) required for sanitation tasks.
• Work with Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams to ensure timely completion of sanitation-related equipment PMs and foster collaboration.
• Ensure complete compliance with GMPs and 5S processes.
• Estimate labor and operational costs for ongoing operations and new projects with the Sanitation Manager.
• Track competencies of subordinates and provide leadership and development to achieve objectives.
• Monitor Sanitation processes and adjust schedules as needed.
• Implement and drive continuous improvement activities through change management and best practices.
• Liaise among departments, corporate resources, other plants, and suppliers.
• Optimize resource utilization through an effective Sanitation organization.
• Provide coaching and development for teams and key resources to meet business objectives.
• Supervise and motivate teams of workers; review subordinate performance.
• Assist with the management of the Master Sanitation Schedule and Action Item Logs.
• Perform titration testing of all required chemicals.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Sanitation Manager.

Requirements

• 3 or more years of sanitation, food safety, or quality supervisory experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment; large-scale manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Results-oriented with strong interpersonal skills, capable of working both independently and as a team player.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; recognized as a leader capable of driving excellence.
• Leadership skills and technical proficiency in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing techniques and related CI tools (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, Agile, Kaizen Events, Blitz, Value Stream Mapping, OEE, First Hour Full Power, Labor Analysis, 5S, 7 Forms of Waste, Pit Stop Changeovers).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; ability to learn corporate enterprise software systems for data analysis and tracking.
• Understanding of Master Sanitation Schedules.
• Demonstrated experience training teams is preferred.
• GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) knowledge is required.
• Experience with SQF or BRC audit preparation and ATP swab experience is a bonus.

Physical Demands

• Must be capable of being productive on assigned shift schedules.
• Regularly required to stand; occasionally required to sit, walk, stoop, or crouch.
• Ability to work in high-temperature areas and at heights (e.g., on a scissor lift).
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Work in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
• Work in expansive, noisy, wet/humid, and temperature-variable environments (refrigerated, ambient, or warm).

Skills

• Able to communicate and take direction from the Sanitation Manager.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is helpful.
• Ability to make sound business decisions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Sanitation Supervisor has direct reports, including group leaders, contract employees, and regular full-time employees. The shift crew consists of both regular employees and contract employees.
