Sanders Scholar for Library Outreach and Engagement - Student Hourly

KU Libraries is seeking a dedicated individual for the Sanders Scholar for Library Outreach and Engagement during the Fall 2026 semester. The Sanders Scholar program provides funding for a student to work closely with a librarian mentor at KU Libraries to learn about the evolving practice of librarianship.

About the role

As a Sanders Scholar, you will play a vital role in providing outreach and facilitating undergraduate student programming at Anschutz Library and Watson Library. This project is ideal for students who want to get involved on campus, develop and implement library programming, and learn about the outreach and engagement responsibilities of academic librarians. The preferred candidate will be familiar with KU Libraries programs, resources, spaces, and services.

Responsibilities

• Outreach & Engagement (60%)
  • Represent KU Libraries at campus orientations, information fairs, and library events such as book clubs, movie screenings, workshops, and KU Reads activities.
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of library programs and events.
  • Increase awareness among undergraduate students about KU Libraries programming and resources.
  • Deliver a public presentation at the conclusion of the semester that summarizes the experience and presents recommendations.
• Learning & Collaboration (30%)
  • Attend monthly meetings with the Center for Undergraduate Initiatives and Engagement, and weekly meetings with individual librarians in connection with existing library programs and events.
  • Provide input and feedback on library outreach and engagement activities.
  • Serve as a collaborative partner with KU Libraries faculty and staff.
  • Build a working knowledge of KU Libraries resources and services in order to appropriately refer students.
• Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

Requirements

• Availability to work primarily between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, with some evening and weekend availability depending on programming needs.
• During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods, the student hourly must:
  • Have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester, or
  • Be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours, or
  • Be enrolled in summer session, or
  • Be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
• Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments do not apply to Student Hourly appointments).
• Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
• This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Public service and/or customer service experience.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience with event planning and execution.
• Demonstrated ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.

Pay

$15.00 per hour
