About the role
This position involves operating lab equipment to provide finished product analytics. The role requires collecting hourly samples for each of the 3 systems, including fat samples, feather samples, and blood samples. It involves repetitive climbing, extensive walking throughout the plant, and requires strong communication, computer, and penmanship skills. Upper body and arm strength are necessary due to frequently climbing vertical ladders and pulling up your own weight; comfort with heights is essential. The role also requires the ability to assist in other areas of the plant between samples.
Responsibilities
- Read, understand, and follow all Standard Work Instructions (S.W.I.) and Training within Industry (T.W.I.) utilizing Lean rules and principles.
- Work safely following all Simmons policies and requirements, as well as regulations from various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicles, handling of feed products, packaging, ingredients, and other related items.
- Operate all equipment, monitor and maintain production speeds and quality of the finished product.
- Keep your department clean and uncluttered throughout your shift.
- Complete all forms in the department.
- Perform essential position responsibilities with little or no supervision.
- Recognize hazards and take necessary precautions.
- Participate as a member of the Team, including ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T. practices with all team members.
- Attend appropriate team meetings.
- Foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues (e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes) and accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
- Actively look for ways to achieve synergy within the larger Organization and reinforce needed actions.
- Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g., quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understand the impact of individual actions on these systems, communicating concerns and improvement ideas.
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Physical requirements
- Ability to work in a wet, noisy, dusty, humid, hot, or cold environment.
- Ability to walk and stand on feet for more than 10 hours per shift.
- Ability to climb stairs, fixed ladders, and vertical ladders occasionally.
- Requires occasional bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, safety footwear, H2S monitor, and full-face respirator.
