Salon Manager
About the Role
As a behind-the-chair Salon Manager at JCPenney Salon, you will work up to 8–16 hours per week behind the chair with your own clientele, depending on salon volume, while leading your team. You will coach and motivate stylists to become top salon professionals in America, drive retail and service results through creative marketing, networking, and promoting client loyalty. The salon business is a key driver of traffic and revenue for JCPenney, and as a leader, you will uphold company values to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
Responsibilities
Client Experience
- Lead by example in all client interactions and support stylists to ensure an exceptional client experience.
- Create an environment that inspires associates to build client loyalty through coaching, feedback, and recognition.
- Provide services including cut/style, chemical services for all hair types, and other hair styling services to meet or exceed client expectations.
Team Development
- Proactively recruit qualified stylists through social media, recruiting websites, referrals, and engagement at local salons and cosmetology schools.
- Provide frequent, balanced, and meaningful coaching and feedback to improve stylist effectiveness.
- Create learning opportunities that drive associate success throughout their careers.
- Ensure stylists complete available training by scheduling them for core and artistic education courses.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, professional, and fun environment to inspire loyalty, passion, and growth.
Business Performance
- Review reports to identify and prioritize areas of opportunity in the salon, determine root causes, and set direction to achieve productivity, referral, rebooking, return rate, and client acquisition standards.
- Deliver salary cost objectives to achieve profit plans.
- Review merchandising guidance and adjust salon layout while maintaining core standards.
- Actively monitor the salon and backbar to address merchandising, replenishment, and recovery opportunities.
- Manage or direct the team to address product-related issues impacting the client experience.
- Manage backbar expenses to plan.
Performance Standards / Programs
- Consistently meet performance standards for product and service sales, client experience, productivity, and attendance.
- Review and follow all company programs, including hiring practices and state safety regulations, and advise salon associates on related issues.
Requirements
- A current cosmetology license in the state you are applying.

- Competitive wage plus 50% commission on service sales behind the chair and 10% commission on retail sold with a service.

Pay
Pay range: USD $17.03 – USD $26.02 per hour.
