Salesforce Technical Lead
This remote-based position is open to all eligible candidates based within the United States and requires up to 5% annual travel.
About the role
The Salesforce Technical Lead serves as the primary technical authority for the Information Technology Salesforce instance, overseeing the entire software development lifecycle including planning, design, development, testing, and ongoing support. This leadership position will lead a team of three Salesforce professionals, guiding them to deliver high-quality solutions aligned with organizational goals. The role focuses on maximizing system efficiencies and leveraging Salesforce features to meet the needs of diverse user groups, creating simple, scalable, compliant, and automated mission-critical systems. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, be a team player, and support the ASPCA’s mission of ending cruelty to animals.
The ASPCA supports a broad portfolio of technologies for a highly mobile and diverse staff, maintaining a presence in multiple geographic locations. The team provides support to over a dozen facilities, field operations, and over a thousand staff members. This role works cross-functionally to ensure staff, partners, and communities have the systems needed to work effectively and efficiently to improve animal welfare.
Responsibilities
- Staff Management
- Manage a team of 3 employees, setting clear expectations, providing learning and development opportunities, and building positive relationships.
- Conduct regular feedback, career, and performance conversations, including annual evaluations and ongoing check-ins.
- Lead and develop a team of Salesforce professionals (Senior Salesforce Developer, Salesforce Developer, Salesforce Administrator/Release Manager), aligning their work with the ASPCA’s mission and priorities.
- Ensure team efforts align with organizational outcomes and redirect focus for maximum impact.
- Provide training and growth opportunities to empower the team to lead projects and manage initiatives.
- Oversee team activities to meet project plans and delivery commitments.
- Identify professional growth opportunities, provide mentoring and coaching, and ensure effective cross-training.
- Perform people management tasks, including approving timesheets, scheduling, 1:1 meetings, performance reviews, and goal-setting.
- Appraise individual and team performance, providing feedback, remediation, and motivation.
- Interview and assess candidates for open positions.
- Technical Leadership & Product Development
- Serve as the primary technical authority for Salesforce initiatives, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering best practices.
- Lead planning, development, and implementation of custom and scalable Salesforce solutions.
- Translate business requirements into well-architected solutions leveraging the Salesforce platform.
- Oversee administration processes, including workflows, validation rules, approval processes, assignment rules, and flows.
- Apply in-depth knowledge of Salesforce standard capabilities and expand using custom code and third-party integrations.
- Oversee technical initiatives to produce optimized, well-architected, and maintainable solutions.
- Identify opportunities for optimization and templatization of code for broader impact.
- Advise on complex technical needs, identifying short-term and long-term solutions.
- Oversee CI/CD processes, working closely with the Salesforce Administrator/Release Manager on pipeline management using Gearset.
- Strategy and Collaboration
- Collaborate with IT Product Managers to develop business solutions and understand workflows.
- Meet with clients to determine and document business, functional, and technical requirements.
- Communicate project status, solution benefits, risks, and effort estimates to stakeholders.
- Identify new and creative opportunities to use Salesforce and improve efficiencies.
- Champion Salesforce adoption and empower end-users.
- Assist in prioritizing and roadmapping Salesforce initiatives.
- Collaborate across the organization to execute and prioritize configuration and customization requests.
- Work with program and technology colleagues to implement scalable, long-term solutions aligned with organizational strategy.
- Data Management and Operations
- Oversee the development of reports, dashboards, workflows, and processes to monitor data quality and integrity.
- Conduct code reviews, enforce standards, optimize performance, and ensure adherence to security protocols.
- Establish end-user best practices to ensure system and data integrity.
- Monitor, assess, and report on Salesforce system health and usage; identify improvements.
- Maintain user profiles, roles, permissions, record distribution, security, queues, licenses, capacity, and storage limits.
- Serve as the point of escalation for complex issues.

Skills
- Advanced proficiency with Force.com Platform (Apex, VisualForce, Salesforce APIs, SOQL, Unit Testing).
- Advanced proficiency with Salesforce Lightning, including configuring Lightning Web Components and Flow Builder.
- Advanced proficiency in Salesforce.com out-of-the-box functionality and configuration.
- Experience with Salesforce DevOps platforms, preferably Gearset.
- Proficiency in developing and modifying systems, including coding, testing, debugging, and documenting programs.
- Proficiency with Force.com Migration Tool.
- Understanding of data migration from CSV, SQL, or other systems to Salesforce using tools like Salesforce Data Loader.
- Proficiency with code change control using GitHub.
- Knowledge of relational databases and database architecture.
Pay
The target hiring range for this role is $149,500 - $156,500 annually. Starting pay depends on education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands, or budgeted amount. Compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time.
