This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT). The Salesforce Developer will support the entire development life cycle, including designing, developing, testing, and deploying Salesforce applications for the TerpEngage team. This role is considered essential and may require working at the normal work location or an alternative site during emergencies to maintain continuity of University services. Occasional evenings, nights, weekends, or shift work may be required.

About the role

The Salesforce Developer will collaborate with UMD clients to understand requirements and configure Salesforce solutions, ensuring thorough documentation. The role involves building custom applications using Lightning Web Components, maintaining and improving existing applications, and troubleshooting technical issues. The developer will work closely with Salesforce admins and other developers to identify where custom code is needed, prioritizing out-of-the-box Salesforce features.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Salesforce solutions using Apex, including Lightning Web Components (LWC), Apex Triggers, and Batch, Schedulable, and Queueable interfaces.
  • Build and enhance Lightning experiences, including custom Lightning pages and Lightning Communities.
  • Develop and support integrations between Salesforce and external systems using REST APIs.
  • Participate in the full Salesforce development lifecycle using Agile methodologies, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Deploy and package Salesforce solutions using tools such as Metadata API, Change Sets, Visual Studio Code, Salesforce CLI, and Git.
  • Configure and manage version control systems and development environments to support team-based development.
  • Apply Salesforce coding standards and best practices, including governor limit optimization, use of design patterns, and evaluation of design trade-offs in cloud-based architectures.
  • Write and maintain unit tests to ensure high code coverage, system stability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Translate functional and non-functional business requirements into scalable technical solutions within Sales Cloud and Service Cloud.
  • Produce and maintain technical design and system documentation.
  • Create and manage workflows, automations, and system triggers while adhering to development standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and maintain existing applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of professional software development experience.
  • Two (2) years of professional software development on the Salesforce platform.
  • Active Salesforce Platform Developer I certification (required by start date).
  • Additional work experience may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining Salesforce solutions using Apex, LWC, Apex Triggers, and Batch/Schedulable/Queueable interfaces.
  • Experience with Salesforce development lifecycle using Agile methodology and tools like Metadata API, Change Sets, Visual Studio Code, Salesforce CLI, and Git.
  • Experience with Lightning development, including custom Lightning Web Components, pages, and Communities.
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with external systems using REST APIs.
  • Experience setting up and managing version control systems and development environments.
  • Experience writing unit tests for maximum code coverage and system stability.
  • Experience creating technical design and system documentation.
  • Experience working in higher education (preferred).
  • Experience with data integration using Informatica or similar ETL technologies (desirable).
  • Additional active Salesforce certifications (e.g., Administrator, Advanced Administrator, Platform App Builder, Platform Developer II) are a plus.

Skills

  • Knowledge of Apex programming and Salesforce development best practices.
  • Skill in Lightning development, including custom Lightning Web Components and pages.
  • Skill in setting up and managing version control systems (e.g., GitHub).
  • Skill in writing unit tests for high code coverage and system stability.
  • Skill in creating clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions within Sales Cloud and Service Cloud.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Repetitive motion: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Close visual acuity required for activities such as preparing data, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, and extensive reading.

Pay

$104,320 - $125,184 per year.

Schedule

This position has an in-person component with expected time in the College Park, MD office per week. Some telework may be eligible, depending on project and department needs. Regular in-office attendance is required.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. F1 STEM OPT support is also not available.
