About the role
The Horizon Investments Distribution Summer Intern position provides experience in the primary distribution functions of a growing goals-based investment manager, including Sales and Strategic Relationships. The role also offers an introduction to other departments at Horizon — Technology, Investment Management, Consulting, Marketing, Data, and Compliance — delivering hands-on experience across the functions of an award-winning asset management firm. The goal of the internship is a full-time job offer upon graduation.
The intern works within the Sales team that engages financial advisors to distribute investment solutions used inside financial plans. You will learn the various stages of the consultative sales cycle: creating awareness, facilitating onboarding, and retaining customers. This includes an introduction to how Horizon strategies are positioned to financial advisors and the education required for advisors adopting a goals-based framework.
Upon conclusion of the internship, the intern completes two capstone projects: a sales presentation and a mock business plan. The position also includes a rotation with the Strategic Relationships team to observe and learn the importance of distribution relationships at the key-account level and what is required to maintain strong partnerships. During this rotation, the intern supports the Head of Strategic Relationships and the Strategic Relationships Manager in campaign organization, gathering data for conference and event follow-up, and driving process through CRM utilization.
Responsibilities
- Learn and apply consultative sales techniques
- Support Internal Sales and Regional Directors in client engagement
- Call shadow and take notes during client sales presentations
- Assist Strategic Relationships with conference data collection and follow-up
- Deliver a final presentation to Sales on Goals-Based Investment Management
- Complete a mock territory business plan as if you are the Advisory Specialist responsible for the territory
