Sales Development Representative
About the Role
As a Sales Development Representative, you'll be the first voice a prospect hears before they ever become a Nickel customer. Your job is to find the right businesses, get them on the phone, and hand off a qualified, excited prospect to our Account Executive team. We built this role to grow our next AE, not just to fill a seat. We want someone who already has real outbound sales experience, is hungry to sharpen it, and is ready to earn a shot at a closing role as we keep scaling. If you perform, the path to AE at Nickel is fast and real. You'll also be joining a team-first group that's growing fast and moves quickly on new ideas. From day 1 you’ll be equipped with modern tools and work side by side with the founders. You'll have more room to shape our process and make an outsized impact here than you would inside a more rigid sales org. As such, we're looking for someone who's genuinely energized by outreach, treats objections as useful information, not a setback, and takes ownership of their number every day. You should already be comfortable on the phone and disciplined about your pipeline. From there, we'll invest in developing you into a full-cycle closer. We’re also looking for somebody who can contribute not just numbers, but personality and ideas. You should be excited about driving an impact on growth, but also influencing our processes, contributing new ideas, and developing their career. This is an in-person role based in Brooklyn, NY.
Your Day at Nickel
- Prospect with a passion: You will complete ~100 high-quality outreach activities daily including calls, emails, and other touch points. This will be a hybrid of high-value sign-up's, inbound requests, warm and cold outbounds. Passionate prospecting involves researching accounts and decision-makers in America's core industries, using provided lists and your own digging.
- Schedule Qualified Meetings: You'll qualify, not just book. Get prospects talking about real cashflow and AP/AR pain before you hand them off, and ensure a seamless handoff to Account Executives.
- Learn and execute on various sales strategies across inbound and outbound methods to prepare for a Senior SDR or Account Executive role.
- You'll own your numbers, and own our team-wide objectives as well.
- You'll be able to work cross-collaboratively, support event prep, call blitzes, and other GTM initiatives as we scale.
What You'll Need
- 1–3 years of outbound sales development experience (SDR/BDR, or a related high-volume cold-calling role). You've already established the fundamentals, and you're hungry to build on them.
- Strong verbal and written communication. You can explain value clearly and handle objections without a script.
- A results-oriented mindset with a genuine drive to hit and beat targets, and full ownership of your daily numbers.
- Coachable. You take feedback well, act on it fast, and are constantly improving.
- Comfort with CRM tools (HubSpot preferred) and sales engagement workflows.
- Thick skin. You can take rejection call after call and keep your energy up for the next one.
- Huge plus if you have fintech, payments, SaaS, or startup experience, or came up around construction, trades, manufacturing, transportation, or logistics. A family business background in one of these industries is a real bonus (not a requirement).
Join Us If You're Energized By
- Insane growth: Our core payments product grew 12x in 2025 and now handles $1B+ in transactions for thousands of customers. You'll help build the pipeline engine behind the next stage of that growth.
- Cutting-edge AI tools: You'll be supported by AI coworkers and a tech stack that helps you research accounts, sharpen your messaging, and work smarter than a pure dial-and-email grind.
- Real businesses, real impact: Our customers aren't faceless corporations. They're small businesses whose success directly shapes what Americans pay for housing, goods, and everything in between.
- A category-defining product: We're replacing a stack of outdated financial tools with one seamless platform. Selling something this new is harder, but the upside is bigger too.
- A low-ego team: Every voice matters here regardless of title. The best ideas come from wherever they come from.
- A real, fast path to AE: This role exists to develop your next Account Executive. We're growing quickly, and strong performance here is the clearest, quickest way onto a closing team, not a someday promise.
- In-person work: We're based in Dumbo, Brooklyn, and in the office 5 days a week.
Compensation
- Expected Total Cash Compensation: $70,000 – $100,000 based on experience, with uncapped commissions
- Equity: Generous equity package in a fast-growing, well-funded startup
