About the role

Washington State LGBTQ Commission has an opening for a position that supports the agency's mission. The role involves collaborating with commission staff, commissioners, and community partners to advance equity and inclusion for LGBTQ+ communities across Washington State. This position will contribute to policy analysis, community engagement, and programmatic work that aligns with the commission's strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

• Support legislative and policy advocacy efforts, including tracking bills and analyzing their impact on LGBTQ+ communities
• Assist with community outreach and engagement activities, including planning and facilitating listening sessions, meetings, and events
• Contribute to research and data collection on issues affecting LGBTQ+ populations, such as healthcare access, youth development, aging, and rural community needs
• Help maintain and update the commission's Rainbow Resource Hub and other informational materials
• Collaborate with staff on communications, including newsletter content, public records requests, and social media
• Participate in commission meetings and workgroups, preparing agendas, minutes, and reports
• Support the RAIN (BRG) employee resource group and related initiatives
• Perform other duties as assigned to advance the commission's goals

Requirements

• Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ+ equity and inclusion
• Experience with community outreach, advocacy, or public policy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including commissioners, government agencies, and community organizations
• Familiarity with legislative processes or government operations
• Proficiency with standard office software and virtual meeting platforms
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Qualifications

• Relevant education or equivalent experience in public policy, social work, community organizing, or a related field
• Knowledge of Washington State government structure and the legislative cycle is preferred
• Experience with data research and analysis related to LGBTQ+ populations is a plus
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are desirable
