Currently Seeking: Board Treasurer Board members at GJL are thought leaders who help shape our programs and strategy. As the governing body of GJL, the Board of Directors is collectively responsible for outlining GJL’s strategic goals, supporting the Executive Director, reviewing and evaluating the annual budget, and contributing to fundraising. We are currently seeking a Board Treasurer to support GJL’s financial oversight, budgeting, accounting, and compliance. FAQs About Joining GJL’s Board Of Directors What are the perks of joining the GJL Board? Occasional paid travel to Seattle, WA Leadership development and skill buildingMeet and build relationships with other people passionate about gender justiceFinancial Compensation: We pay our board members $25 per hour for board meetings, for a total (on average) of $50-75 per month. We recognize that not all board members need to be compensated; however, we want to honor the labor and value of community members’ contributions and make board participation more accessible to people of all socio-economic statuses. Who are you looking for on your Board? We strongly encourage and value considerations from Trans women of color, Disabled Trans people, Trans immigrants or refugees, Trans sex workers, and Trans people from other marginalized groups. Prior experience on a board of directors and/or experience with fundraising is a plus! Do I need to live in Seattle or Washington State? Nope! Since 2020, GJL has been completely virtual, and both our staff and board are located all across the U.S. What is the Time Commitment? Our board meets virtually once per month for 2-3 hours. These meetings currently happen on the third Friday evening of each month, although that is subject to change with new board members’ availability. Outside of this monthly board meeting, we recommend planning for an additional 1-2 hours during the month for other board responsibilities. In total, the time commitment is around 3-4 hours per month. Are Board Members Compensated? We pay our board members $25 per hour for board meetings, for a total (on average) of $50-75 per month. We recognize that not all board members need to be compensated; however, we want to honor the labor and value of community members’ contributions and make board participation more accessible to people of all socio-economic statuses. Do Board Members Have to Fundraise? All GJL board members support the organization in some way—but not always by directly giving monetarily. Many board members contribute by supporting organizational fundraising efforts and activities, for example, by planning fundraising events, phone banking, and other fundraising activities. There is no mandatory “give-get” to be on GJL’s board.
