Responsibilities
- Maintains confidential records
- Prepares intravenous medication while abiding by clean room regulations (USP 797)
- Repackages unit-dose medications
- Performs monthly ward inspections
- Rotates at off-site SAH-owned pharmacies on a regular basis
- Fills and prepares code carts and code trays for checking
- Repackages medications correctly and follows procedure
- Writes items on the re-order list when inventory is low
- Completes tasks on the To Do list without waiting to be assigned
- Completes ward inspection assignments monthly
- Triage and manage phone calls; refer to appropriate pharmacist if necessary
- Prepares IVs for delivery when needed; preparation does not delay delivery
- Titrates rounds and prepares and delivers titrating IV meds prior to required time
- Reconciles IV and chemo orders each morning and clarifies discrepancies
- Fills and manufactures IV and chemo orders according to good sterile product preparation technique
- Restocks IV room supplies on an ongoing basis
- Adheres to proper garb regulations
- Completes temperature and hood cleaning logs
- Cleans IV room and documents the process
- Fulfills chemotherapy procedures following techniques, garb, and checking processes
- Always uses ParX for refills and loads of medications
- Accurately fills Pyxis refills
- Checks and updates Pyxis medication expiration dates
- Looks at and takes action on Pyxis alerts in a timely manner
- Uses Pyxis FST if needed
- Follows proper procedures in handling controlled substances
- Clarifies questions with the Pharmacist
- Brought medication errors to the attention of the Pharmacist for clarification
- Clarifies physician orders inappropriate to the technician
Qualifications
- Six to twelve months pharmacy experience preferred
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Techician certification preferred
- MA Technician Registration Required
