About the role
Safety Town is a program for rising kindergartners that teaches life-saving lessons on various safety topics. Staff members assist in planning, promoting, organizing, and implementing daily activities based on pre-arranged educational safety themes. They supervise children, lead safety lessons, provide emotional support, ensure safety standards are met, report incidents, assist with program activities, and manage classroom and facility set-up and clean-up.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children participating in the program
- Oversee program activities
- Lead a group of children through their class safety lessons
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to child participants
- Ensure safety standards are always maintained
- Report any accidents/incidents to the program supervisor
- Assist children with practice of the program skits and songs
- Assist with set-up and clean-up of the classrooms and facilities
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- At least 1 to 2 years of experience working with preschool-aged children and/or experience in the recreation field
- Ability to work with children with special needs including those with medical conditions, dietary concerns, and/or behavioral problems
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Must be creative and energetic
- Must be able to identify recreational needs and interests of camp participants
- Exercise considerable tact and courtesy when interacting with program participants, parents, and support staff
Qualifications
- No diploma
- High School/GED
- Some College
- Associate Degree
- Bachelor Degree
- Master's degree or higher

- Ability to work with children with special needs
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
