Safety Tech II
About the role
Join a team driven to make a big impact at the BAE Systems site in Jacksonville, Florida. As a Safety Tech II, you will support the Maritime Solutions shipyard by ensuring safety compliance and identifying potential hazards in various work environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections of work areas including sea-going vessels, piers, docks, and buildings.
- Document inspections and communicate safety and health findings with subcontractors and customers.
- Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations, company policies, consensus standards, and customer requirements.
- Identify and facilitate corrections of potential hazards, infractions, or cease operations until hazards are resolved.
- Support safety evaluations in areas such as life and safety codes, safe work practices, personal protective equipment usage, walking and working surfaces, hot work, slips, trips, fall protections, fire prevention, housekeeping, confined and enclosed space entry, hazard communication standards, Global Harmonizing System, electrical safety, portable power usage, and machine guarding.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent, with one year of related safety experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with employees, management, customers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Support evaluations and testing in environments including noise, illumination, atmospheric conditions (confined spaces), and ensure proper working environments are maintained.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and ability to work with industry-specific software.
- Capable of populating and maintaining department databases, archiving, writing reports, and maintaining files.
- Able to work in physically demanding environments and weather conditions, including climbing, bending, crawling, working at heights, inside enclosed and confined spaces, and exposure to heat, rain, and wind.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to acquire and maintain a government access badge.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in OSHA Maritime Safety Training (10 or 30 hour), OSHA 3095 Electrical Standards, OSHA 3115 Fall Protection, OSHA 5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry, and/or OSHA 521 Guide to Industrial Hygiene.
- Maritime experience preferred but not required.
- Shipyard Competent Person certificate.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $43,285 - $69,256. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
