Key Safety Responsibilities
- Monitor daily work activities to ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and job hazard assessments to identify unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Recommend and follow up on corrective actions to reduce workplace hazards and prevent incidents.
- Lead or assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and employee training sessions.
- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events; document findings and recommend preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate safety records, inspection reports, training documentation, and incident reports.
- Ensure employees properly use required personal protective equipment and follow safe work practices.
- Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response procedures.
- Communicate safety expectations clearly to employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.
- Stay current on OSHA standards, company requirements, and industry best practices related to workplace safety.
Security Responsibilities
- Respond and investigate guest and employee related incidents, (e.g., theft, trespassing, assault, injury, intoxication, etc.).
- Monitor surveillance system, use as a tool for investigations, and report any system issues to IT.
- Coordinate with local fire and law enforcement when handling emergencies.
- Engage with local, State and Federal officials as necessary to support safety compliance and best practices.
- Ensure accurate communication with public and employees through the Canyon Conditions Hotline, texting service, etc.
- Escort suspended or terminated employees off property.
- Review Safety Officer shift reports and follow up on any items of concern.
- Manage or perform the Safety Officer duties as needed.
Asset Management Responsibilities
- Manage assets, (e.g., radios, vehicles, keys, safes, etc.).
- Ensure these items are checked out by authorized employees.
- Oversee the lost and found protocols to ensure property is communicated to guests and returned.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health, construction management, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in safety, ski resort operations, construction, restaurants, or hospitality preferred.
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and general workplace safety requirements.
- Ability to conduct inspections, recognize hazards, and recommend practical corrective actions.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead safety conversations and hold employees accountable in a professional manner.
- Proficiency with basic computer programs for reports, records, and communication.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
- OSHA 10-Hour certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Additional safety-related certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHST, or equivalent are a plus.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Current certification as a Utah State Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) a plus.
Other Qualifications
- Must be 25 years of age or older.
- Must be approved to drive by our insurance carrier.
