Safety Specialists work closely with field staff, clients and subcontractors, all levels of management, and personnel from external organizations during all phases of electric construction projects. This is a location-based position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned project area and requires varying amounts of travel.

Sturgeon Electric’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) construction division provides a full range of capabilities related to transmission, distribution, substation, and clean energy construction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing site visits to observe and document safety behaviors and work conditions to ensure a safety focus throughout all phases of electric construction projects
  • Coordinate with Operations teams to create site-specific safety plans; actively participate in safety meetings to review job hazard analysis and hazard recognition tools
  • Participate in project kick-off and progress meetings
  • Support client-specific safety requirements programs and ensure alignment and compliance between client expectations, company rules, and applicable safety regulations
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to environmental protection or occupational health and safety
  • Coach and mentor project site personnel regarding safety practices and behaviors on an ongoing basis
  • Conduct proactive behavior-based and quality-focused field safety observations and PPE hazard assessments
  • Partner with Safety, Safety Training & Operations teams to schedule or facilitate required employee trainings: New hire orientation, OSHA ETD Quarterly refresher training, Customer required training, Post-incident training as part of a Corrective Action Plan, and participate in site-specific safety planning
  • Conduct accident/injury investigations including root cause analyses
  • Provide support to Operations organization for incident case management and documentation steps
  • Follow-up with Operations organization to ensure completion of corrective actions for all accidents and incidents
  • Support company safety committees by assisting in assessment of safety performance trends, implementing process, and tool improvements
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company-designated office or field location.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field roles is required
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Minimum of one (1) safety certification is preferred, examples include: Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Specialist in Safety and Health (SSH), or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Undergraduate degree in Safety Management or related field preferred; combination of relevant experience and education considered in lieu of degree

Skills

  • Problem-solving and situation analysis skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite programs, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence behavior
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry-related safety regulations
  • Must be a team player able to work with co-workers, different departments, and outside contacts while maintaining strong relationships

  • Basic understanding of electric construction project management practices and procedures
  • Ability to travel for job site visits for extended periods of time

Pay

Salary $78,000-$115,000 / year, paid weekly.
