Under the direction of the Director of Occupational Safety and Environmental Programs, the Safety Specialist collaborates with campus units and departmental staff to administer environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) compliance programs and deliver EH&S services.

About the role

  • Oversees administration of EH&S programs.
  • Performs routine and impromptu audits of campus work locations.
  • Provides training and outreach.
  • Applies technical knowledge to campus-related EH&S issues and ensures procedures are followed.
  • Follows up with EH&S leadership and campus management as needed.
  • Serves as a safety liaison to multiple departments to ensure strong safety programs.
  • Collaborates with EH&S subject matter experts, Risk and Insurance Management, Occupational Health, Office of Emergency Management, and Training to maintain a comprehensive safety program.
  • Identifies trends and offers solutions to complex safety issues using strong analytical skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Master’s degree in a related field (preferred).
  • 4–7 years of related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of specific EH&S fields, including related laws and regulations, and general knowledge of all EH&S fields.
  • Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting local, state, and federal regulations and related standards.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and ability to communicate in a diverse environment.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage projects within time and budget constraints.
  • Proficiency in using technology and relevant scientific equipment.
  • Current work authorization in the U.S. (sponsorship for employment visas is not available for this position).

Pay

The full salary range for this position is $79,698.96 – $144,155.52 annually. The expected pay scale is $79,698.96 – $106,000.00 annually, based on education, licensure, certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
