Safety Specialist

Responsibilities
- Provides guidance and assistance to managers and employees by ensuring that all Occupational Safety and Health regulatory responsibilities are being upheld.
- Conducts regular, unannounced inspections of facilities and jobsites utilizing safety walks/audits as requested to ensure compliance with company policy and legal regulations.
- Prepares audit reports and proactively identifies potential risks and creates corrective action plans to coach managers and employees.
- Conducts root cause analysis for any near-misses or accidents, providing actionable reports to prevent recurrence.
- Conducts Risk and Hazard Assessments and recommends immediate corrective actions.
- Implements procedures to ensure safe working practices and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
- Completes administrative duties as necessary to update and maintain the safety training system database by filing safety records for all employees.
- Maintains meticulous training logs and records utilizing our current software to ensure that all employees remain current on their required certifications and trainings.
- Develops and updates safety training materials, including power point presentations and hands-on demonstrations, ensuring that they align with current OSHA and ISO standards and delivers this training to employees and Managers.
- Promotes a safety culture with a high focus on Health and Safety awareness.
- Leads safety orientations for new hires and recurring certification courses (e.g., Driver’s Training, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout).
- Conducts "toolbox talks" and on-the-spot coaching to reinforce safe habits in real-time.
- Verifies that all safety gear (PPE) and equipment are inspected and maintained accordingly.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (preferred).
- Bi-lingual Spanish required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a dedicated safety role, ideally with a mix of training and field inspection. (A college degree can be substituted for years of experience)
- OSHA 10-Hour (Required); CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional) preferred.
- Must have a valid FL driver’s license and clean MVR.
- Proficiency with EHS management software and presentation tools (PowerPoint and LMS platforms).
- Experience in the janitorial/construction industry a plus.
- Exceptional public speaking ability and the tact required to enforce rules without damaging morale.
