Major Responsibilities
- Collects accident information and reviews incident investigations.
- Manages tracking software for accurate and timely safety data input and management.
- Generates weekly and monthly incident and safety reports.
- Looks for ways to reduce accidents, improve safety, and champion Knife Rivers I Choose Safety culture.
- Schedules and monitors random and DOT drug screens and physicals.
- Coeordinates and administers DOT regulations in conjunction with Human Resources and Operations (where applicable).
- Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related organizations to update knowledge of safety program development.
- Coordinates communications between shops, sites and safety office.
- Investigates motor vehicle citations and motor vehicle accidents.
- Aids in accident scene investigations and clean up.
- Coordinates safety and training programs as required.
- Ensures MSHA, OSHA, DOT regulatory compliance.
- Works closely with field personnel and peers.
- Actively participates in incident review with operations.
- Files records and other documentation.
- Conducts regular safety inspections on Jobsites, Plants and Shops.
- Aids the Safety Manager with company required programs such as Respiratory Protection, forklift certifications and hearing conservation among others.
Minimum Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Direct or indirect professional exposure to industry health and safety programs, regulatory government agencies and/or similar organizations and/or significant operational experience with a strong focus/record on safety.
- Ability to learn and grow in this safety role in the mining and construction industry.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Frequently present on jobsites, mine sites and shops with a great attitude.
Preferred Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of health and safety regulations related to construction materials industry.
- Post secondary education or BA/Degree in Construction Safety or Mining Safety, Construction or equivalent experience.
- General knowledge of insurance and financial matters related to health and safety programs.
- Working knowledge of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet or presentation software.
- Working knowledge of construction materials equipment and operations.
- Certified trainer or significant experience in training.
- Knowledge of applicable government regulations and the ability to interpret and apply appropriately.
- A self-starter who can work independently.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate with multiple parties simultaneously.
- Willing to travel regularly within the Mountain Region to support projects, and material producing facilities.
- Available to work nights, weekends and holidays in support of operational needs, inspections, audits, etc., as required.
- Organized and possess an attention to detail.
- Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills.
- MSHA/OSHA/DOT audits
- Strong training skills.
