Responsibilities
- Promote a safe workplace without risk to health
- Ensure the workplace satisfies health and safety requirements
- Proactively prevent and control exposure to hazardous substances and dangers from various sources
- Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
- Report or review findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Work with the Safety Manager to conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
- Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
- Communicate safety policies with customers
- Act as a safety resource contact for site managers on multiple projects/jobs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- A valid driver’s license required
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- A bachelor’s degree in safety-related programs preferred
- A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in safety and/or compliance functions required
- Prior experience in ash management, waste, civil-type construction, or related environmental fields preferred
- An OSHA 500 certification required
- A familiarity with OSHA 1926 standards and requirements
- A working knowledge of heavy equipment and excavation safety
- A familiarity with relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
- An experience with Microsoft Office Suite required
