Safety Specialist

This position reports to the Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality and Training Manager in support of the Decontamination and Decommissioning (D&D) of facilities at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory and Kesselring Site, both located in upstate New York. The role requires strong report-writing and procedure-development skills, computer proficiency, public speaking, active participation in project meetings, team collaboration, and excellent follow-through.

Responsibilities

• Implement EHS policies and procedures
• Interpret and apply OSHA standards
• Conduct EHS surveys and audits, and maintain EHS documentation
• Collect and analyze EHS metrics
• Conduct accident investigations and participate in the safety committee
• Provide safety field oversight of production personnel involved in radiological and RCRA D&D activities

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of safety and industrial hygiene experience
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial engineering, or a related field
• Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Industry standards
• CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent certification preferred
• Experience in construction, demolition, remediation, asbestos abatement, lead abatement, lifting & rigging, ergonomics, noise, scaffolding, air monitoring, and industrial hygiene equipment
• Prior shipyard, DOE, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience strongly preferred
• Experience in radiological and environmental decontamination and decommissioning fields a plus
• Must be a U.S. citizen; no dual citizenship
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Level L Security Clearance
• Must be able to obtain and maintain radiological qualifications
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to pass and maintain a medical clearance for entry into radiological areas
• Occasional overtime and infrequent travel may be required

Pay

As of the date of this posting, the pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.75 per hour. Compensation depends on experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity.
