Safety Specialist

About the role

The Field Safety Specialist ensures Adams Environmental, Health, and Safety programs—including State and Federal applicable regulations—are adhered to by assigned project leadership personnel. Responsibilities include providing or identifying safety-related training, overseeing adherence to construction safety norms, answering non-routine correspondence, and assembling highly confidential and sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Perform Construction Site and Safety Audits (e.g., Adams Project Site Safety Inspection).
• Actively participate in project handoff programs, including site preparation and team acclimation.
• Communicate and document inspections, suggesting corrective measures via Adams information systems.
• Conduct quality control inspections of field leadership personnel to ensure adherence to safety-related forms/inspections (e.g., Adams Pre-Task Planning).
• Ensure assigned projects are equipped with safety apparatus, PPE, potable water, latrines, first aid, etc., to support the workforce.
• Provide consultation and advice to field leadership to maintain a safe working environment by complying with safety regulations, practices, and standards.
• Assist superiors in enforcing safety policies and environmental health guidelines.
• Train project site personnel on various health and safety topics.
• Provide direct technical surveillance and testing services as required.
• Enforce and implement Adams Safety policies and procedures.
• Perform scheduled Site Safety Audits for assigned projects as needed or requested by management, general contractors, or the Senior Risk Control Director.
• Assist leadership with incident and “near miss” investigations.
• Provide “in-house” training for Adams employees, including OSHA 10- & 30-hour courses, First Aid/CPR/AED, scissor lift, forklift, aerial boom lift, fall protection, powder-actuated tools, confined space, heat stress, NFPA 70E, ladder safety, and power-driven tools.
• Record, file, and distribute training certifications for all trainees.
• Attend all required safety meetings for Adams, General Contractors, and Owners, representing Adams professionally.
• Develop relationships and build trust with field associates, project managers, trade contractors, and others involved in project activities.
• Maintain professional relationships with client contacts to ensure satisfaction with Adams’s Safety Program.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of Adams Electric Company Environmental, Health, and Safety Manual.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1926 and 29 CFR 1910).
• Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70E manual.
• Skilled in creating, filing, maintaining, and disposing of personnel and company records.
• Proficient in web/database safety and training programs.
• Proficient in writing internal and external correspondence.
• Proficient in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to focus, organize, and prioritize job functions to meet deadlines.
• Strong teamwork and professional communication skills.
• Ability to adjust to sudden demands and present/train large or small groups regularly.

Qualifications

• Meets NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety Qualified Person criteria.
• At least two years of experience in safety coordination at a major construction site.
