Summary
Under the direction of the area EHS Coordinator, the Safety Representative is responsible for assisting the Safety team with company safety/health, risk management and Employee development programs.
Responsibilities
- Organizing/maintaining files/records for all incidents/injuries, including general liability, auto liability, workmen’s compensation, and all other applicable claims.
- Enters incident claims information into system as needed.
- Assists with Safety Related claims as needed.
- Enters safety audit information into the system as needed.
- Collecting & making available safety/health material to operations supervisors for training needs.
- Maintaining area/programs of responsibility to keep within economical demands of budgets.
- Provides PPE and helps with technical support as needed.
- Affords assistance with employee health hazard exposures using established industrial hygiene techniques.
- Enters Workers Compensation claim information into system as needed.
- Compiles company safety results & data as directed by Safety Team.
- Coaches operations managers/supervisors with the performance management process including implementation, development, and facilitation.
- Develops creative communications methods to ensure the distribution and institutionalization of best practices.
- Affords assistance with MSHA compliance as needed
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: 1-2 years construction and/or industrial safety experience, thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations, eventually needs to become New-Miner Certified under Part 46 of 30 Code of Federal Regulations
- Work Requirements: Must have a valid, state issued driver’s license
- Knowledge/Skill Requirements: Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement essential corrective measures, solid training/teaching experience, high ethical standards, excellent communication skills (both oral and written), must be able to orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously to accomplish a goal, able to use resources effectively and efficiently and arrange information in a useful manner, be able to be a strong voice in bringing the company’s slogan of SEE, STOP, DO to the forefront
- Preferred Knowledge/Skills: Familiar with Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and work zone traffic control, successful completion of OSHA 10 and/or 30 hour Construction and General Industry course, MSHA Part 46 and Part 56/58 Safety and Health Standards for Surface Metal and Nonmetal Mines, First Aid CPR Certified, Knowledge of Workers Compensation claim handling
Physical Requirements
- Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
- Able to utilize a computer and I-PAD for word processing, e-mail communication, and preparation of documents and presentations
- Knowledge in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Intermittent climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling are required
- Periodic, but extensive walking and standing required.
- Must also be able to drive a vehicle and walk uneven terrain.
- May require periodically lifting objects up to 40 lbs.
