About the role
You will analyze and resolve high-risk hazards present at the industrial complex.
You will identify and correct industrial hazards throughout painting, metal, woodworking, electrical and electronic shops, major warehousing and supply operations, acid-caustic storage areas, industrial laboratory facilities, piers and dry docks.
Responsibilities
- Apply hazard analysis methods and techniques to resolve operational safety and health problems.
- Initiate procedures implementing technical safety standards, codes, and safety requirements for a wide variety of operations and activities.
- Represent management at meetings, conferences, critiques, and advise members on Environmental Safety and Health Department actions.
- Inspect work environments to ensure safety and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Advise investigation boards convened to ascertain causal factors precipitating fatalities, serious injuries, or substantial property damage.
- Recommend specific investigative techniques and the application of appropriate safety standards and sound practices.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
This position requires that the selectee be willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: managing and evaluating a high-risk naval shipyard or nuclear industrial safety and occupational health program to identify and resolve hazardous environmental operating conditions for ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
